The end of summer means two things for the Wisconsin Civil Justice Council – the beginning of the fall legislative floor period and the start of a new Wisconsin Supreme Court session. WCJC is poised for another successful legislative session, and is working closely with the Great Lakes Legal Foundation to monitor and report on Wisconsin Court of Appeals and Supreme Court arguments and decisions of importance to Wisconsin’s business community.
Earlier this summer the court announced it would hear cases on the following dates:
2013 September 3, 4, 11, 18 – Schedule of cases and summaryOctober 3, 15, 22, 23 November 11, 19 December 5, 17, 18, 19 2014 January 8, 9, 14, 15 February 4, 5, 20, 25 March 13, 14, 18, 19 April 3, 8, 9, 11
The WCJC Appellate Committee will determine it is appropriate to file amicus curiae (friend of the court) briefs with the Wisconsin Supreme Court in any pending cases. These briefs are prepared by Great Lakes Legal Foundation lawyers or outside counsel under WCJC supervision.
WCJC’s close attention to the Wisconsin Supreme Court makes it the ideal evaluator of the court’s impact. The 2013 Guide to the Wisconsin Supreme Court and Judicial Evaluation highlights the most important cases decided over the past two terms (from 2010 through 2012). The 2013 Guide describes the Supreme Court’s decision in each selected case, WCJC’s position, and how each justice decided the case.
