On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court issued an opinion (Kurns v. Railroad Friction Products Corp.) in which the Court held that a widow’s state-law claims against the manufacturers and distributors of locomotive products containing asbestos causing her husband’s death were preempted by federal law.
